........................................................
................On
the way to Florida we passed another monochromatic scene, this time, gray.
................Three,
thin, homeless men stood around a fire, under an overpass, a few yards
................from
the road. The wore long gray coats, even their faces were gray. When
we
................pulled
over to give art to them, they scattered.
.........................................
................Undeterred,
Katharyne dropped six prints into an envelope and tacked it to a
................tree.
The next day we drove back to check the status of her delivery. The
men
................had
tacked a thank you to the tree: T.Y.
BUTTERFLY,
written in charcoal on the
................enevelpe.
The poetry of those words, and the power of the art that inspired them,
................are
memorable.
.................................................................`.....~
............................................................................................
................In
Florida, we helped Katharyne set up a table under a shade tree.
Sixty two
................adults
and children turned out. They all smiled as they veiwed the butterfly
................exhibit.
An elderly Haitian lady chose a blue butterfly, native to her homeland.
................She
held the print to her face as she walked away, smiling. A 5
year old child
................asked,
shlyly, if she could have a second butterfly for her "Mama's new baby".
................She
quietly offered a nickel.
......................................................................
................Everyone
said, "Thank you". Everyone smiled. Everyone invited us to
visit
................again.
As we packed to leave, two people approached. They had walked
................half
a mile to bring a gallon of cool water. We drove them home
and as we
................said
good bye, they offered a blessing,."God Speed".
......................
................These
early experiences continue to strengthen Katharyne's commitment to
................provide
the gift of the arts to as many people as possible. We're still
along
................for
the ride. Join us. ART.and
butterflies bring a smile to the heART.

................Printing
process
................Each
butterfly is prined on heavy card stock, in a standard size: 3.5
" x 5 ".
................This
standard size is designed to fit any frame or mat that features a 3" x
4.5"
................opening.
Fade resistant ink is used in the printing process, to insure a long
................lasting,
beautiful, image.
................Frames
................No
need to buy expensive custom mats or frames. You can find very nice
................standard
size frames fo $1.00 at most Dollar Stores. If you prefer a more
................expensive
mat or frame, they are available at slightly higher prices, in stores
................across
America.
................Adaptable
................The
3.5" x 5" standard size is perfect for people who are confined to small
................spaces
(nursing homes, prisons, or recovery centers). For those who are
................unable
to have glass or sharp corners, the card stock is sturdy enough to
................stand
alone on window sills or tables. Members of the armed services are
................able
to keep them above their bunks or in knapsacks.
................Unexpected
Benefit to You
................People
who are not restricted by space or other limitations will find added joy
................in
the seach for mats and frames. You'll meet and talk with other ART
llovers,
................have
fun exchanging new ideas about art, and learn about artistic events in
................your
area. As you engage in the process of providing art to others,
you will
................enrich
your own life.

................Sun
Screen for the Beach Area Homeless
................This
year, Quantum 7
Butterfly will expand its mission to provide
sun screen to
................homeless
people who live in beach areas. Many suffer from serious sunburn.
................Along
with free butterfly prints, Katharyne will provide free sun screen.
In the
................past,
she distributed sun screen on a small scale to homeless people who live
................in
the beach areas of Southern California. All of the people she
met applied it
................to
thier faces and hands.
................Now
because of your generous donations,, Quantum.7.Butterfly.org
.is able
................to
subsidize sun screen to many more people.

................The
Anonymous Donor
...........................................................................................................................................
................Several
years ago, Katharyne was handing out butterfly prints in a barrio in
................Southeast
San Diego. A yellow Cadillac drove by twice. The
driver wore
................a
tailored white suit, a white Borsolino hat, and a yellow tie.
We jumped to
................the
obvious conclusion which was confirmed by the locals. The man
in white
................seemed
to be surveying our presence in his territory.
.......................................
................The
third time he drove by, Katharyne flagged him down. He
pulled over a
................few
feet away and before we knew what was happening, Katharyne walked
to
................his
car. We couldn't hear what she said, but she engaged him in
coversation
................for
some time.
......................................
................The
next day, she delivered five butterfly prints to a private grocery store.
................The
man in white had left an envelope. Inside, ten brand new, one hundred
................dollar
bills. The next day, she left a large framed butterfly print for
him. We
................never
saw him again. To this day we don't know what Katharyne said to him.
